Saturday Social Ride, 19 Sep ’20, Urban Ride

15/09/2020 by Geoff Fox

URBAN RIDE

Every Saturday afternoon DORC host a social mountain bike ride in different locations around the Darwin area. The aim of these rides is to get all level riders together to enjoy our sport and trails in a friendly supportive environment. These rides can help familiarise you with our local trail networks. They are also a great opportunity to meet other like-minded people.

This Sat 19th Sep ’20  will be an Urban ride around the Darwin CBD. We haven’t done one of these rides in a long time. The meeting point for this ride will be the at Stokes Hill Wharf. Please arrive at 4:45pm for a 5:00pm start.

We start this ride at the wharf and move up to Civic Park in the city for some stairs and small drops. After playing here for a bit we move to the Esplanade and the Ampitheatre before going down to Doctors’ Gully and then on to some stairs at Larrakeyah and Cullen bay. We then move on to Mindal beach, the Botanical Gardens and back through the city to the wharf, via Travellers Way, for some post ride rehydration and food.

As part of our COVID-19 plan we are required to collect names and phone numbers of everyone participating in our events. These will be used for contact tracing in the unlikely event that an outbreak does occur.  We also encourage everyone to download and install the COVID Safe app.

Location Darwin City and Beyond
Meeting point Stokes Hill Wharf
Date Saturday 19th Sep ’20
Time 4:45 pm for a 5:00 pm start

The ride will be at an easy pace and will be approx 1.5-2 hours in duration.  There will be  plenty of breaks as the group will be sessioning some of the urban features on the way around.

You will need a mtb in good working order, a helmet, enclosed footwear, gloves and plenty of water. Riders please be self-sufficient with water, spare tube, pump and tyre levers, etc.

On completeion of this ride we will be at Stoke Hill Wharf for some post ride rehydration.

You do not need to be a DORC/MTBA member to participate in these rides. However, for insurance purposes, you will need proof of membership with DORC/MTBA or be prepared to sign a waiver.

It is the responsibility of the rider to ensure that they have a current MTBA Licence, take advantage of the MTBA 2 month free trial by the link below, this is to make sure we follow the MTBA club and insurance requirements.

All we ask is for new riders to sign up for a free 2 month free trial MTBA membership. It only takes 30 seconds to sign up.

If you do not take advantage of any of the options above you must understand that you are not covered by the MTBA Insurance policy for public liability or personal accident cover. You engage in this activity at your own risk and you are responsible for any expenses should you be held liable for a negligent act or should you suffer personal injury or property damage.

If you are not a DORC/MTBA member you will be required to sign a waiver before starting the ride.

Please see the ride leader before the start of the ride.

Feel free to message us for more info.
Enjoy the Ride!
