Junior MTB Fun “D” Mentals Course

Program and Information

The Junior MTB Fun “D” Mentals Course is aimed at junior riders aged 10-17 years. This course will provide the skills to enable participants to ride safer, faster and smoother. The course is perfect for both beginner riders and those who want to improve or refine their skills.

Age Range – 10 – 17 years

Duration – 3 Weeks

Day – Sunday

Time – 8am – 10.30am

Cost – Free of Charge (Participants must be members of MTBA, Mountain Biking Australia and DORC, Darwin Off Road Cyclists)

Places – 8 participants. A minimum of 5 participants is required for the course to go ahead.

Dates – Sun 21st Oct, Sun 28th Oct, Sun 4th Nov.

This is a progressive course and skills are built upon each week. Therefore, it is important that participants are able to attend all 3 sessions.

Requirements for the course are:

Mountain bike in good working order

Helmet, full fingered gloves, enclosed shoes and flat pedals (no clips)

Eye protection

Spare tube/puncture repair kit

The Buildup Blitz 14/10/18

LETS GO RACING!!

Time to dust off your bike, and get ready to race or just ride.

The Build Up Blitz takes place on Sunday the 14th of October and it will be a 90 minutes of fun flowing tails around the New Pine forest. Course length is approximately 7.5km

The track is easy, and the riding is fun. If you haven’t done a DORC race before, this is the time to start, ride as many, or as few laps as you like.

Race Registration opens at 3:30pm, Race starts at 4:30pm sharp

DORC Social Rides

DORC Saturday Arvo Social Ride

It’s time to change things up a little. This Saturday will be an urban ride in Darwin city and surrounds. If you have done one of these before you know how much fun they can be. If you haven’t been on an urban ride before, come along and check it out. You won’t be disappointed.

The ride will start from Stokes Hill Wharf at 4:45 for a 5:00 pm start on Saturday 22nd Sep 18.

Duration of the ride will be approx 1.5-2hr and all levels of riders are welcome. There are plenty of areas where  you can test out your skills or watch other riders negotiate the urban terrain during the ride.

Upon completion of the ride at Stokes Hill Wharf you are invited to stay on for dinner and drinks if you wish.

You will need a MTB in good working order, helmet , gloves, enclosed shoes, plenty of water to last the ride and any spares that you think you might require.

You do not need to be a DORC member to attend the social rides. However, if you are not a DORC/MTBA member you ride at your own risk. DORC/MTBA members are covered for accident/injury insurance. If want to #beadorc click here.

DORC Junior Social Ride

This Sunday 23rd Sep 18 the DORC Junior Social Ride will be held at the New Pine Forest.

Meeting at the old shed carpark, opposite the turn off to the Howard Springs Nature Reserve, Howard Springs Rd, at 3:45 for a 4:00 pm start. Ride duration will be approx 1.5hr.

You will need a bike in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed shoes and plenty of water.

If you are 10 years or younger you will need a parent/carer to accompany you on the ride.

You do not need to be a DORC member to attend the social rides. However, if you are not a DORC/MTBA member you ride at your own risk. DORC/MTBA members are covered for accident/injury insurance. If want to #beadorc click here.

DORC Social Ride

Saturday Social Ride

This Saturday afternoon we will be riding the Old Pine Forest at Howard Springs.

Meeting at the entry to the Old Pine Forest at 4:45 for a 5:00 pm Start Saturday 15th Sep ’18.

This will be an easy ride and cater to all levels of riders. There will be plenty of stops to regroup along the way.

Duration will be approx 1.5 Hours and approx 20klm distance.

You will need a MTB in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed shoes and plenty of water. Bring along any spares that you think you might require.

You do not need to be a DORC member to participate in the social rides. However; you will be riding at your own risk. DORC/MTBA members are covered for accident/injury insurance.

Women’s  Introduction to Mountain Biking

Do you have a mountain bike or can you borrow one from a friend?

Do you want to give this crazy sport called mountain biking a go but don’t know where to start? Do you need some basic knowledge, skills and confidence to get you pedalling?

Come and join us for our DORC Women’s Only Introduction to Mountain Biking Course. There are 8 spots available. This course is free for all women who are members of DORC and MTBA and 16 years +. Time: 8.00 am – 12.00 pm

Location : Old Pine Forest, Howard Springs

You will need a bike in working order, helmet, covered shoes, gloves and water.

This course will provide you with the basics and covers such topics as:

Bike type and set up

Basic bike maintenance on the trail and what you should carry on the trails

Balance and Body Position on the bike (this will save you much heartache and improve your confidence immensely)

Terrain awareness (trail scanning, line choice etc)

Basic Cornering and Braking

We can also discuss anything else MTB related that you are interested in finding out about and answer any questions you might have regarding MTBing in our amazing local area. It will be a fun and informative few hours.

Social Rides This Weekend

Saturday Social Ride

On Saturday the 8th Sep ’18 DORC will host a social ride in Charles Darwin National Park. We will take a spin around the park and check out some of the recent work that has been done and also ride a few of the old favourites.

The ride will start, just inside the front gate, at 4:45 for a 5:00 pm start. All levels of riders are welcome to join in as the ride will be at a moderate pace with plenty of stops to regroup. Ride time will be approx 1.5 hrs.

You will need a MTB in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed footwear, spare tube, pump, tools, etc and plenty of water to last the distance as the weather has started to warm up.

You do not need to be a  member of DORC to attend our social rides. However; non members ride at their own risk. DORC/MTBA members are covered for accident insurance.

Junior Social Ride Sunday Arvo

This week the Junior Social ride will be held at the Old Pine Forest, Howard Springs.

On Sunday 9th Sep ’18 at 3:45 for a 4:00 pm start from the entry point to the Old Pine Forest, Howard Spring Rd, Howard Springs.

This ride is for all juniors up to the age of 18. If you are 10 years old or under you will need a parent/carer to accompany you on the ride. The things you will need to bring are a bike in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed shoes and plenty of water to get you through the ride. This ride will go for approx 1-1.5 hours at a steady pace.

You do not need to be a member of DORC to attend these rides. However; DORC/MTBA members are covered by accident insurance. Non members ride at their own risk.

Saturday Arvo Social Ride

The DORC Saturday arvo social ride will be at the New Pine Forest this week. We will be meeting at the Stow Rd entrance. This is at the intersection of Howard Springs Rd and Stow Rd. Please be there Sat 1st Sep at 4:45 for a 5:00 pm start.

The new pine forest is suitable for all level of riders and there will be plenty of breaks to regroup along the way.

Duration of the ride will be approx 1.5 – 2 hrs, depending on the available light at that time of the evening.

You will need a MTB in good working order, helmet, gloves and enclosed shoes. Plenty of water is a must as the weather is starting to warm up again. Please bring any spares you may need for the ride,tubes,pumps and tools etc.

All riders are welcome. However; if you are not a DORC/MTBA member you will be riding at your own risk. All DORC/MTBA members are cover for accident insurance during rides.

Trail workshop – by Trailscapes

Hi all, there will be a Trail Maintenance Day this Sunday the 26th, at Charles Darwin National Park

Have you always wondered what it takes to:
·         Maintain trails
·         Make them more sustainable
·         The skill needed
·         What a good trail design looks like
·         Why it’s important.

Well wonder no more, Trailscapes will be providing as part of their Contract for the Trail network upgrade and rationalisation of Charles Darwin NP and Casuarina Coastal Reserve (Lee Point) a one day Trail Workshop, this will be focused on the trails at CDNP and will be hands on.

Please meet at the front gate at 9:00 for a 9:30 start, DORC will have water and drinks on hand and will have limited tools available, so it might pay to bring your own Shovel, Rake, Pick axe etc. This is a fantastic opportunity and it would be good to see a few of you down there, any questions call Keogh on 0428821360

Social Rides This Weekend

The Saturday afternoon the DORC social ride will be held at Lee Point so we can check out the new trails that have been completed recently.

Sat 25 Aug 18, 4:45 for a 5:00 pm start. Meeting opposite the Beachfront Hotel, Nightcliff.

This ride is open to all riders, of all levels of skill. It is a fairly easy ride and will be aprrox 1.5 hrs in duration. There will be plenty of stops along the way to regroup. You will need a MTB in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed shoes, plenty of water and any spares you might require.
