Charles Darwin Track Closures Update
DORC committee members met with P&W on 27/10/2008.
The meeting was positive with a good level of understanding on both sides regarding MTB as a legitimate recreational use of the Park. The closed tracks (See map) remain closed for now, however re-opening in future after certain conditions are met is a possibility. DORC members are urged to continue to respect the closures, enjoy the rest of the trail network and wait further news. If you encounter other riders in the Park urge them to show similar respect.

President, DORC

Charles Darwin Track Closures
Please note that sections of Charles Darwin single-track have been closed due to archaeological and heritage issues. DORC is currently liaising with the Department of Natural Resources, Environment, the Arts and Sport (NRETAS) regarding the closures. In the interim if you’re riding in Charles Darwin please obey the respective closure signage. See map.

Skills Course Cancelled
The Basic MTB Skills course scheduled for Sunday 21st September has been cancelled. At this stage the plan is to move the course to the 3rd or 4th Sunday in October.

DORC 100k
Not quite 100k but 84k (21k loop) to be pretty exact. Apologies to those who were keen to see the "100" displayed on their odo. An over estimate on patching the kilometres together plus the time involved in selecting and making suitable sections of track to keep it interesting made the course a bit shorter then expected.

The Results - serious pace from Richard Wood and Chris Hanson pretty much made up the pointy end of the field from start to finish. Solid effort from a tired and dirty (I had fun) looking Tadek Rudz who also managed to get on the podium, no bad for a roadie that slept in. Well done to everyone else who reasoned with their limits on the day.

Special thanks the Tim, Trent and Prado for track marking.
Also Lauren (what am I doing here so early) Wood and helpers for registration and time keeping duties. If anyone has any comments or suggestions for next years event contact DORC.
See results below, apologies if any names are misspelt.

Seadogs Trivia Quiz
A small bunch of quizzers turned up to test them selves mentally and physically. Competition was fierce but Team 1 (Richard Wood, Greg Heins & Callum Dolman) had the right combination of smarts and speed. Well done to all teams, see results below.

Result:

Team Name Checkpoints Visited Time Penalties Final Score

Pine Forest 3 Hour
Another exciting, painful, dusty 3 hours in the Pine Forest.
Kevin Wells put in an excellent ride to post 7 laps and first place, well done Kevin. Big thanks to Tim and his helpers as always for the new track additions, track marking and timing.

Charles Darwin 1 Hour
A keen bunch turned up for Sunday's 1 hour of racing at Charles Darwin. Richard Wood made everyone feel slow after racing his single speed thing! Well done Rich. Thanks Tim Ellison and helpers for the event / timekeeping. A weary looking Tim a few hours earlier arrived back from managing the juniors at the NT Road Championships in Batchelor.

Lee Point Downhill
At short notice Tim Ellison put together an excellent short downhill course near Lee Point. About twenty rides turned up to test their skills. Even after the uphill ride back to the starting gate, most riders returned with stories of near misses and thoughts on where they could improve their time on the next run. A very keen Luke Ellison posted a very slick time on his hardtail. Thanks again to Tim and helpers.

Last Sunday (2nd), DORC and Juniors Pine Forest Racing.
Another excellent event organised by Tim Ellison. Not sure how many turned up but the DORCs were well out-numbered, seemed to be juniors, and Mums and Dads everywhere. Tim had everyone gasping for breath for most of the afternoon. The upset of the day was a roadie taking out the DORC long lap feature event, well done Matt Jones.

Super Sprint Series - Race 1
Thanks to Tim Ellison and his merry band of helpers for an excellent afternoon of racing. For some of the DORCs it was a case of survival for the first few laps of the BMX track. The younger BMXers and DORCs showed great skills and set a cracking pace around the BMX track, some of the older DORCs were happy just to keep both wheels on the ground and stay upright. Last Sunday'e Enduro
Thanks to everyone that turned up for Saturday's working bee. Shame the heavens opened early Sunday morning as the track was looking excellent on Saturday afternoon (Come on dry season!). Special thanks to Andy for timing and to Adam for the BBQ. Big thanks to Kyle for organising the event and the heavy duty work of cutting up the large trees before Sunday's racing.
Well done to Chris Hanson, he kept the power on for the full 4 laps.

Tour De Pine Forest
With the Pine Forest yellow jersey on offer and the word around about Tim's exciting Pine Forest events, 40 plus riders turned up. Lot's of dust, slipin & slidin and a few over the bars get-off's on the new triple jumps made it a fun afternoon of racing. Thankyou to Tim and everyone that helped out on the day.

comment iconHoward Springs 100km It was all a bit hectic and hot as hell, however thanks everyone that helped out with the event and well done to everyone who participated. Planning for 100K started a couple of months ago so thanks to Organisers Bill, Aaron, Kev, and to Michael, Olsen's mum and all the other scorers. Thanks to Cycle Zone for donating ENDURA for race day and to Col for organising the esky. Congratulations to Matt Hubber who sacrificed several layers of skin to complete the 100km first. Sunday was a good hit out for Matt before he heads off in a few weeks to compete in the Crocodile Trophy.

I was going to say everyone ate Matt Hubber's dust again, but he was so far in front there was no dust, well done Matt.

"Just like to thank Malcolm Neville, who slowed down for me on the second half of the last lap when my lights failed. Would still be lost out there if he hadn't. Was still hard staying on his tail though... smacked into a few trees and rocks that I couldn't see. Hit one tree with my handlebars and end up on my arse. Malcolm turned around. Lying on the ground with the bike on top of me, all I could see was Malcolm's lights shining through a big cloud of dust. Great race. Thanks again to Aaron." Phil Blum.

Thanks to Col Smith for drinks and backup lighting! Congratulations to Matt Hubber, everyone pretty much ate his dust for 3 hours. Official results will be out shortly. If anyone has any incidents or tall stories from the race or comments suggestions for next year's event, email them to DORC and we may be able to put together a brief race report.

Well, despite the blood, bandages, shredded knicks and bike damage an excellent course and event from Steve. Thanks to Steve's helpers and chief time keeper Andy. Matt Hubber made the course look easy and left the wreckage well behind as he consistently lapped under the 8 minutes. Well done to everyone for a fun afternoon of racing, hope Kev and Mark pulled up OK.

comment iconThanks to Kyle & Bec for another well organised rogaining event. The local knowledge and cryptic clue factors were high for this event. Teams therefore needed to combine their left brains and local knowledge. Those individuals that could also carry the biggest rock while riding a bike plus identify and return the longest palm frond in Darwin could also earn valuable points for their team. So after all protests were dismissed, late penalties issued and rocks and palm fronds cleared from the front entrance of Sea Dogs Restaurant, team Squides (matt hubbsey, nic hahn full, emma wonkerflood, aaron back-track caden) were the new DORC rogaining champs. When asked about their teams winning strategy Aaron said, "lucky we had the girls in our team because Matt and I are not that smart".
