DORC Maps & Tracks - Charles Darwin National Park Track Report - 9 December 2007

It's all done! The long-lost section of the Charles Darwin trail has been reclaimed and recycled...and improved. The whole thing is ridable from start to finish by a skilled rider. There's still some tidying up to do on some sections to make it more ridable by MTBers of all levels and DORC will be doing that over the next few months.

I'd like to thank Rob Brooks and Bill Murphy for putting in extra hours and doing a great job making Charles Darwin into what should be considered Darwin's premier MTB trail. I encourage everyone to get out and ride the whole trail, both the original and the reclaimed one. I am confident that you'll find it to be as good, if not better than, many other trails around Australia.

I'd also like to thank those who turned up to the last working bee. You guys did a fantastic job on the sections you worked on and really added to the experience of MTBing in Charles Darwin. I extend a friendly invitation to the other 70 or so members of DORC who haven't yet had the satisfaction of helping to maintain our great local trails.

Finally can I ask that everyone respects the trail, and the effort that has gone into it, by:
- Trying not to skid into or around corners...a skilled rider doesn't lock their wheels up!
- Don't make shortcuts by riding around obstacles...stay on the trail, get off your bike and walk the obstacle!

See you on the trail,
Kyle Bawden
