Saturday Afternoon Social Ride

This Saturday, 9th Feb 19, DORC will be hosting the social ride at the Old Pine Forest, Howard Springs

We will be starting the ride from the entry point to the Old Pine Forest. This is located on Howard Springs Rd approx 300m past the Stow Rd intersection on the left hand side of Howard Springs Rd, Howard Springs.

Please be there at 4:45 pm for a 5:00 pm start. This ride will be at an easy pace and perfect for beginners or anyone who would like to join in on a social ride. During the ride there will be plenty of stops along the way to regroup. The Old Pine Forest is graded as a green trail and a great place to ride for advanced and beginners riders alike. The trails are predominatly smooth flowing corners with a few small rooty/rutted sections.

You will need to bring a mountain bike in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed footwear, plenty of water and spares, tube, pump etc.

Due to MTBA insurance requirements, all riders are required to bring proof of DORC/MTBA membership. If you are not a member or do not produce proof of membership, you will be required to sign an insurance waiver form.

Junior Social Ride

Sunday 22nd July 2018

The junior social ride is on again.

This week we will meet at the shed entrance to the new pine forest.

Opposite the Howard Springs Reserve entrance on Howard Springs Rd.

Meeting time will be 3:45pm for a 4:00pm start

The ride will last for approx 1.5 hours.

You will need a bike in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed shoes and plenty of water.

If you are 10 years old or younger, please bring a parent or carer with you for the ride.

If you are not a DORC/MTBA member you will be riding at your own risk.

Saturday Arvo Social Ride

If you are not travelling to Katherine for the 4 hour race this Saturday afternoon and you would still like to get out and about on your mountain bike, never fear.

DORC will be holding a social ride on Saturday 14th July 2018. This week we will be riding the Old Pine Forest at Howard Springs.

Meeting at the entry to the Old Pine Forest, on the left side of Howard Springs Rd approx 200m past the Stow Rd intersection.

Arrive at 4:45pm for a 5:00pm start. This will be an easy ride that is suited to all level of riders. There will be plenty of breaks to regroup and have a chat or catch your breath if required.

You will need a mtb in good working order, a helmet, enclosed shoes and plenty of water to get you through.

All riders are welcome. If you are not a DORC/MTBA member you are riding at your own risk.

Mountain Bike Skills Course

12th May – 25th Jun 2018

This free 6 week course is for all riders (beginners to advanced) who want to improve their riding skills (you must be a DORC and MTBA member).

Whether you have been riding for 2 weeks or 10 years you can always improve your skills and finesse your stylle

During this course we can adjust all lessons to suite all riders. This course is based on the leading MTB industry standard from PMBIA (Professional Mountain Bike Instructors Association).


Fun “D” Mentals

Course Dates

12th May – 25th Jun 2018

Week 1.  Saturday 12th May: Basic bike maintenance on the trail, bike set up, body position and balance. Easy ride through the old pine forest.


Week 2. Saturday 19th May: Revise week 1, braking/cornering, trail scanning. Easy ride through the old pine forest.




Week 3. Saturday 2nd Jun:  Revise week 2, wheel lifts,  negotiating trail features. Easy ride through                                             the new pine forest.


Week 4. Saturday 9th Jun: Revise week 3. pumping, climbing/descending and switchbacks. Easy                                   ride Charles Darwin.


Week 5. Saturday 16th Jun: Revise week 4. Roll overs, drops, stairs and urban obstacles. Urban ride                                           Darwin City.


Week 6. Saturday 25th Jun: Culmination of all skills incorporated in a ride at the either Lee Point or                                             Charles Darwin National Park.



All sessions will start at 8:00am Saturday and will be two hours in length, except for week six.

Week six will take between two to three hours to complete.


Participants are required to arrive 15 minutes before the start time to ensure that they are ready to start at 8am.

All participants must be DORC/MTBA members to participate.

Basic requirements will be as follows:

  1. MTB in safe working condition (working brakes and gears)
  2. safety gear including helmet, full fingered gloves, enclosed shoes and eye protection,
  3. spare tube, puncture repair kit, multi/bike tool, pump,

minimum of 2 litres of drinking water, and;

  1. Proof of current MTBA membership.

Saturday Social Ride-21/4/18

SOCIAL RIDE. This Saturday afternoon 21st April 2018. Preview of the Lee Point Pairs Race course. There will be two options to start this ride. Option 1 is 4:15 pm opposite the Beachfront Hotel for a 4:30pm start. Option 2 is 5:00pm start at Race HQ which is opposite the entry point to the Lee Point Caravan Park.
From Race HQ the ride will follow the course set out for Sunday’s Pairs Race.
You will need a MTB in good working order, helmet, gloves and plenty of water. Lee Point is known for biting insects. Don’t forget the bug spray or cover up.

Introduction to Trail Features and Wheel Lifts

Sunday 15th April 2018

8:00 am – 12:00 noon

The New Pine Forest, Howard Springs.

DORC will be running a half day clinic for  MTB riders who are interested in                    riding smoother, faster, safer and with more control.

The course will be run by qualified MTBA (Mountain Biking Australia) and                        PMBIA  (Professional Mountain Bike Instructors Association) instructors and will              cover wheel lifts and negotiating trail features.

You will learn how to:

  • use your body position and balance to get more from your bike,
  • lift the front/back wheels, and
  • negotiate trail features (logs, rocks, rollovers, etc).

This course is aimed at the beginner to intermediate rider and will give you the               ability to  negotiate trail features with confidence and finesse.

Riders wishing to attend this course must be over 18 years of age and be                        members of DORC and MTBA.

The session will cost $50 per person with all proceeds going to DORC.

Places are limited to 8 riders.

Social Ride Sunday afternoon. 29/10/17

Social Ride. This Sunday afternoon (29/10) 4 PM start.
Geoff Has been busy creating some tracks he’d like to share. This ones going to be fairly technical with some steep pinches to climb and some rocky descents. Approx 25km Ride 2.5-3 hours expected Ride time. Aimed at at the more experienced rider. Meet at 260 Trippe Road Humpty Doo. BYO drinks for after the ride.

June Ladies Ride 24/6/2017

Attention ladies!! We are due to hold the June monthly ladies ride.

This time the ride will be aimed at the intermediate lady rider and will traverse some of the more technical trails at Lee Point.
Francene will be leading the ride.
Where: Meet at the Rapid Creek foot bridge.
When: Saturday 24th June, 4.30pm
Who: ladies who are comfortable riding MTB over rooty bits and uppy downy bits.
I can’t promise it, but I reckon there might be a cold drink at the Surf Life Saving Club afterwards.
Please ensure you bring water and spares. I also recommend a few dollars for a drink and if you plan to be out late lights to ride home.
You do not need to be a DORC member to attend social rides. But we highly recommend becoming a member! The benefits can be found here…
