Social Ride

As we all should know, the Monsoon Madness pairs race will be held this Sunday afternoon 11 Nov 18, at Lee Point. If you haven’t registered yet click here.

DORC will host a nice easy social ride around the Old Pine Forest on Saturday afternoon 10 Nov 18, just to stretch those legs  leading up to the race.  This will  give you Sunday morning to race prep your bike.

Meeting time will be at 4:45 for 5:00pm starting from the entry point to the Old Pine Forest, Howard Springs Road. This is approx 300 meters past the Stow Road intersection, on the left hand side of Howard Springs Road

This will be an easy paced ride, suitable for all riders, with plenty of stops to regroup. The duration will be approx 1.5 hours. If you have been thinking about joining the social rides and are unsure about the trails or staying with the group. This is a great  ride to get you started.

All the usual details apply. You will need a MTB in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed footwear, any spares that you might require and plenty of water to last the duration of the ride.

Monsoon Madness race course preview ride

Saturday 3rd Nov 18, meeting opposite the Beachfront Hotel, Nightcliff at 4:45 for a 5:00 pm start. This week’s ride will be at Lee Point. We will do a lap of the race course for Monsoon Madness (which is on the 11th Nov 18) If you haven’t registered for this fun pairs event, sign up here.

The ride will go to the start point for the race, opposite the Lee Point Caravan Park entrance. You can choose to join the ride at this point around 5:20 pm. From here we will do a lap of the race circuit and also some of the other trails if time permits. Ride duration will be approx 1.5 hours. Then it will be back to the beachfront for a cold drink.

You will need a MTB in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed footwear, any spares that you may require and plenty of water.

DORC Junior Social Ride

Sunday 4th Nov 18, 3:45 for a 4:00 pm start opposite the entrance to the Lee Point Caravan park.

This week’s junior ride will be the Lee Point Trails. All the junior DORC’s can get some dusty berm busting goodness on these great trails. This ride will go for approximately 1.5 hours.

You will need a bike in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed shoes and plenty of water. All riders 10 years of age and under, will need to be accompanied by a parent/carer.

Saturday Afternoon Social Ride

This Saturday afternoon DORC will be holding the social ride at Charles Darwin National Park. 

We will be meeting at the carpark inside the front gate at 4:45 pm for a 5:00 pm start on Saturday 27th Oct.

All riders are invited and welcomed. The ride will be at a medium pace and there will be plenty of stops along the way to regroup.

All you need is a MTB in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed shoes and any spares that you think you may require. A minimum of 2 litres of water is essential, as the weather is getting hotter.

You may need to cover up or take other forms of protection against the biting midges in Charles Darwin this time of year.

You do not need to be a member of DORC/MTBA to attend the social rides; However, you will be riding at your own risk. DORC/MTBA members are covered by personal injury insurance as one of the benefits of membership. To #beadorc click here.

Sat 20th Oct 18, 4:45 for a 5:00 pm start. Meeting at the entry point to the old pine forest, 300m past the intersection of Howard Springs Rd and Stow Rd, on the left hand side.

This ride is open to all riders, of all levels of skill. It is a fairly easy ride and will be aprrox 1.5 hrs in duration. There will be plenty of stops along the way to regroup. You will need a MTB in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed shoes, plenty of water and any spares you might require.

DORC Junior Social Ride

It’s on again this Sunday 21st Oct 18, the DORC junior social ride will be held at Charles Darwin National Park. The meeting point for this ride will be the bottom car park, just inside the front gates at  3:45 for 4:00 pm start.

The plan is to have some fun on the recently rebuilt pump track. If time permits, take a spin along the green trails.

The ride will go for approx 1.5 hours. You will need a MTB in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed shoes, plenty of water and if you are 10 years or under bring your parent/careers along for the ride.

Charles Darwin National Park is renowned for it’s biting midge problem. Therefore you will need to cover up or use some form of protection against these insects.

Saturday Social Ride

Saturday Arvo Social Ride and Race Course Preview

This week the social ride will take us on a tour of the circuit for DORC’s Sunday race, the Build Up Blitz. If you haven’t registered for this event yet click here. This is an easy course through parts of the new pine forest at Howard Springs.

The ride will start at the intersection of Howard Springs Rd and Stow Rd on Saturday 13th Oct. Please be there at 4:45 for a 5:00pm start.

We will ride the Stow Rd section of trail and then head over to the start point for Sunday’s race.

This will be an easy paced ride and will be 1.5 – 2hrs in duration. It will be suitable for all levels of riders, with plenty of stops to regroup, check out the course and generally have a fun ride. If anyone has any questions about the circuit now is your time to ask before the race.

You will need a MTB in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed shoes and any spares that you think you may require. As the days have been getting hotter you will need plenty of water.

Junior Fun “D” Mentals MTB skills course

Junior MTB Fun “D” Mentals Course

Program and Information

The Junior MTB Fun “D” Mentals Course is aimed at junior riders aged 10-17 years. This course will provide the skills to enable participants to ride safer, faster and smoother. The course is perfect for both beginner riders and those who want to improve or refine their skills.

Age Range – 10 – 17 years

Duration – 3 Weeks

Day – Sunday

Time – 8am – 10.30am

Cost – Free of Charge (Participants must be members of MTBA, Mountain Biking Australia and DORC, Darwin Off Road Cyclists)

Places – 8 participants. A minimum of 5 participants is required for the course to go ahead.

Dates – Sun 21st Oct, Sun 28th Oct, Sun 4th Nov.

This is a progressive course and skills are built upon each week. Therefore, it is important that participants are able to attend all 3 sessions.

Requirements for the course are:

Mountain bike in good working order

Helmet, full fingered gloves, enclosed shoes and flat pedals (no clips)

Eye protection

Spare tube/puncture repair kit

DORC Social Rides

DORC Saturday Arvo Social Ride

It’s time to change things up a little. This Saturday will be an urban ride in Darwin city and surrounds. If you have done one of these before you know how much fun they can be. If you haven’t been on an urban ride before, come along and check it out. You won’t be disappointed.

The ride will start from Stokes Hill Wharf at 4:45 for a 5:00 pm start on Saturday 22nd Sep 18.

Duration of the ride will be approx 1.5-2hr and all levels of riders are welcome. There are plenty of areas where  you can test out your skills or watch other riders negotiate the urban terrain during the ride.

Upon completion of the ride at Stokes Hill Wharf you are invited to stay on for dinner and drinks if you wish.

You will need a MTB in good working order, helmet , gloves, enclosed shoes, plenty of water to last the ride and any spares that you think you might require.

You will need a bike in good working order, helmet, gloves, enclosed shoes and plenty of water.

If you are 10 years or younger you will need a parent/carer to accompany you on the ride.

Women’s  Introduction to Mountain Biking

Do you have a mountain bike or can you borrow one from a friend?

Do you want to give this crazy sport called mountain biking a go but don’t know where to start? Do you need some basic knowledge, skills and confidence to get you pedalling?

Come and join us for our DORC Women’s Only Introduction to Mountain Biking Course. There are 8 spots available. This course is free for all women who are members of DORC and MTBA and 16 years +. Time: 8.00 am – 12.00 pm

Location : Old Pine Forest, Howard Springs

You will need a bike in working order, helmet, covered shoes, gloves and water.

This course will provide you with the basics and covers such topics as:

Bike type and set up

Basic bike maintenance on the trail and what you should carry on the trails

Balance and Body Position on the bike (this will save you much heartache and improve your confidence immensely)

Terrain awareness (trail scanning, line choice etc)

Basic Cornering and Braking

We can also discuss anything else MTB related that you are interested in finding out about and answer any questions you might have regarding MTBing in our amazing local area. It will be a fun and informative few hours.
